FAQ -- AVI/MPEG/RM/WMV JOINER

What does this message mean: "The format of file can't be recognized"?
Some AVI files can't be read or joined, why?
Get error message when joining ASF/WMV files, why?
Step by Step
Step 1: Select your AVI, MPEG, RM or ASF/WMV video files  you want to join  by clicking the "Add File" button:

Step 2: Rearrange the video clips in the sequence that you exactly desire.

Step 3: Click "Merge" button start to merging.

 
What does this message mean: "The format of file can't be recognized"?
Be sure your video files can be played

Some AVI files can't be read or joined, why?
The most common reason is that the proper codec can't be detected or install properly.

First, to see which avi codec your avi file is using?

Q: How can I know what codec an AVI file is using?

A: right-click the AVI file in Widnows Explorer, and then click Properties item in the popup menu. please select the Summary tab in the popup dialog, and you can get all information you need.

If it is DivX Codec, Please do as follows:

1. Download it DivX Codec from http://www.divx.com/

2. Install it.

3. Uninstall it

4. Re-Install it, Now your DivX codec is ok.

If it is Xvid codec, download and install from:

Koepie XviD Builds: http://www.koepi.org/

If you avi is from DV, you can use the codec:

Panasonic DV Codec http://www.boilsoft.com/download/Panasonic_Software_DV_Codec_v.2.64.exe

If after installed above codec, still can not work. Download and install the codec pack from:
http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Codec_Pack_download.htm
 

Get error message when joining ASF/WMV files, why?
Your Windows Media Player is older, updated Windows Media Player to version 9. It can be downloaded from the following links:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/winmediaplayer/WMPbeta/9/WXP/EN-US/mpsetupXP.exe
(for Windows XP, 9882 kb) http://download.microsoft.com/download/winmediaplayer/WMPbeta/9/W982KMe/EN-US/mpsetup.exe

If you don't want to update Windows Media Player, please download and install the Windows Media Foamt 9 Series Runtime files. It's only 2,800Kb and can be downloaded from http://www.boilsoft.net/download/WMFDist.exe
